What It's All About (Not Money)

This past Monday I took my first-ever high-school senior portrait session, with a young woman named Lacey. Her father is a fireman, and we took pictures using a 1938 Seagrave fire truck! The session was a lot of fun. Lacey was a pleasure to photograph, and the fire truck was cool.

Last night I got this message from her mother, Gail:

Robert,

The pictures are wonderful!! We are having a hard time picking out the best ones. One of Lacey's favorites is the one she is sitting on the 4-wheeler. The professional always knows best.[*] We are having some family over Sunday and take a vote. We will get back to you next week.

*During the session we took some pictures of Lacey sitting side-saddle on her Honda all-terrain vehicle. I suggested she sit on the ATV as if she were riding it. Lacey wasn't sure she'd like the pictures, but I asked her to humor me, and she did. I am glad she likes the results.

A Prestigious Assignment

Rockland Colloid started in 1965 as a business producing Liquid Light, its signature product, a chemical that enables one to print photographs on any surface. On July 8, 2006, the World’s largest photograph, known simply as “the Great Picture”, was created on a 3,024 square foot canvas primed with Liquid Light. Rockland Colloid has been known for decades by photographers the World over for Liquid Light and its other chemicals, all designed to enhance the creative process of photography, in the darkroom and out of it.

When the Internet took the World by storm in the ‘Nineties, Rockland Colloid obtained a website. Recently, executives at Rockland decided to update their website’s product photographs, and their brochure’s. They could have hired almost any photographer in the United States (their links page alone lists many), but they asked me. I was honored and delighted to be chosen for this prestigious project.

My images will be appearing on the Rockland Colloid website (soon to undergo a complete redesign) in the coming weeks. In the mean time, you may see my images of their six primary products on my own site, in my newly created Products gallery.

I could not be more pleased and excited by this opportunity to train my eye on a different type of subject, especially when that subject carries with it the proud tradition of quality and creativity of Rockland Colloid.

My Movie Debut, Part II

Charles Deemer is a screenwriting professor at Portland State University. He makes movies on the side, entirely for fun. Last month I played "the Photographer" in his short film "Honky Tonk".

I'm only in Part One (above), but all three parts are available here.

Today I had a session with Shannon King (her website is under construction), a business and marketing consultant based in Nevada. I shot images for her business card and website, and I feel very pleased with the results!

Portofino in Sellwood, June 15

These are some shots I took for Seth and Chantal, the owners of Portofino, an excellent Italian restaurant in Sellwood. If you're ever in that neighborhood, and in the mood for the best Italian food about, Portofino is a must!

My Movie Debut

On Wednesday, July 11, I played photographer Dan in a short film called "Honky Tonk", written and directed by Portland State University screenwriting professor Charles Deemer. "Honky Tonk" features Judith Richmond, Robert Projansky, Hollie Olson, and me! Dan is hired by Gayle (Judith) to capture evidence of her husband's infidelity. I am only in one scene, but I had a lot of fun acting opposite Judith. Charles, who specialises in small-screen video, will be shooting the rest of the film this summer, after which time it should be viewable online.

I'm not only a photographer, I play one in the movies!

I thought it might be fun, and I was right. The experience was priceless. Thanks, Charles and Judith!
